Nook, Your Days are Numbered!

So the big project for the summer is covering up the television nook. For too long we’ve suffered from this ugly hole in our wall and the Standard Definition television that sits inside it. The plan is to cover up the nook and to hang a flat screen television. It will be a huge improvement.

I started the project a few days ago and will post a few more updates of the project.

Ahhh, Summer

It’s another bizarrely pleasant morning in DC. Typical temperatures on the Independence Day weekend are between 95 and 100, but it’s currently around 75 at 10:20 in the morning. Nice enough to sit out on the balcony and read the paper.

We’re lucky enough to be able to share this great weather with Jeanne and Geoff, who flew in yesterday. We spent a low-key afternoon visiting the Smithsonian American Art Museum and then having dinner at Hank’s Oyster Bar. We ended the evening with a few different beers at the Brickskeller.

Nationals Tarp Fail

Bottom of the 8th…

Appears to be the inning at Nationals Park when you’re allowed to move down to the good seats.

What We’ve Been Working On

After, originally uploaded by DC_Jeff.

We’ve spent the last few weeks working on our landscaping at the TSM Estate. Happily, our front lawn looks much better than it did before. This photo is a few weeks old. Our crepe myrtle has actually begun sprouting new branches and leaves. Our clematis in the front has crawled its way up to the top of our trellis. We’ll be posting some more photos on flickr in the coming days.

Storm of the Century

It looks like at least half of TSM will be Chevy Chase-ing it on Monday as the Storm of the Century hits the DC region.  If you look at the map on the right, the snow will hit areas as far south as Alabama and Georgia.  Projections for the DC area range from 3″ to 8″, easily enough to shut down Arlington County Schools for at least a day (and maybe more).

UPDATE (Mon. 9:30am): It’s confirmed, Snowpocalypse 2009 has cancelled school throughout the DC metro area.  We probably had about 4-5 inches fall in DC and the snow has just stopped falling.

We’ve posted the best of our Arizona pics on flickr. Thanks again to Mom and Dad for a great trip!

Almost Home!

DFW, originally uploaded by DC_Jeff.

After four great days in Arizona we’re on our way home to DC. Hopefully, we’ll have our good photos from the trip posted on Flickr within a week. With about 500 photos taken, editing is going to be a big challenge.

Mision San Xavier del Bac

Mision San Xavier del Bac, originally uploaded by DC_Jeff.

The mission was built by Franciscan monks as they tried to spread Christianity in New Spain. Interestingly, Jesuits were the first missionaries in the region, but Franciscans took over after the Jesuit Expulsion in 1768. The left tower on the church was just recently restored and work on the right tower will begin next month.

Arizona Here We Come!

Waiting for the Bus, originally uploaded by DC_Jeff.

TSM is on it’s way to the land of cactus, mariachi, and American Hero John McCain. We’ll be back on Tuesday and hope to make some posts during the trip. I took this photo while waiting for the airport shuttle at West Falls Church.
